Level 2 Award for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry (SIA) Skip to main content

Course Overview

Door supervisors and security guards have a key role in protecting businesses and members of the public. It’s a growing industry, with a range of job opportunities. It’s vital that all staff within the security industry have appropriate training to meet legal requirements.

Before applying for a frontline SIA licence, you need to achieve a 'licence-linked' qualification from an approved training provider. This means to work as a door supervisor, CCTV operator, close protection officer or security guard, you need the right qualifications to evidence you have the skills and knowledge you need to hold a licence and do your job safely.

The start of the year was very difficult for me, to help me get back on track, my work coach suggested that I enrol onto the SIA security course that was being run by Learning Curve Group in Mansfield. From start to finish the course was amazing, I left the information session, with a thorough understanding of what I could get out of the course, which gave me back my motivation to complete the course. I cannot thank Steve Stewart and the tutor Robert Davison enough for their help throughout my journey, even after the course ended Steve was always on hand to help me with my SIA licence application. I would highly recommend this course, within days of getting my license I was offered a job; I am now working as a retail security guard for Morrisons in Ashfield Nottinghamshire.

FAQ's

If you want to work as a door supervisor, CCTV operative, close protection officer or security guard, you will need to pass a course to evidence that you have the right skills and knowledge to do your job safely. You do not need a licence-linked qualification to get a non-front line SIA licence.

The application for an SIA licence costs £190 - however, if you are eligible for funding for this course, we will fund your first SIA licence application

To qualify for a licence to work in any front-line licensable activity, you must:

    • be aged 18 or over
    • pass an identity check
    • pass a criminal record check
    • have the appropriate, SIA recognised, licence-linked qualification
    • have the right to work in the UK

All Applicants who are about to take a licence-linked qualification which allows them to apply for a Door Supervision or Security Guarding will need to provide evidence to confirm that they are competent in Emergency First Aid. This means an Emergency First Aid at Work award that follows the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirement.
