Think apprenticeships are only for school leavers? Think again! We’ve reached a new age of apprenticeships, and they’re a great way to narrow skills gaps by upskilling within your organisation.
Although the levy has been around for three years, conversations with businesses show support is appreciated when it comes to establishing what it means to their business and ensuring they’re utilising it in the most effective way.
Many still see apprentices as school leavers who are just beginning to embark on their career journey, but this isn’t always the case. Apprenticeships are available at a vast range of levels from level 2 (equivalent to GCSEs) all the way up to level 7 (the equivalent to a masters degree), which means they are accessible to all age ranges and levels of ability.
They’re also not just for new staff; existing staff can enrol onto an apprenticeship programme, which is great for business that have identified skills gaps that they are struggling to fill through more ‘traditional’ recruitment avenues.
We recently surveyed over 600 CIPD HR leaders to find out exactly what was stopping them from utilising their levy, and one of the biggest pain points they highlighted was the fact that they didn’t think their staff were eligible.
Regardless of level or age, from entry level to CEO,there is a programme for everyone providing there is a demonstrated need to learn and progress.
When you dig a little deeper, we’ve found that employers aren’t actually against the levy in principle, and when they begin to recognise the opportunity it presents to existing employees as well as new entrants, their businesses flourish even more.
This is where a quality training provider can help. By working with employers to grow the skills of their workforce based upon individual needs is the future of training. It’s a key element of continuous lifelong learning, regardless of age or experience.
Now more than ever, it’s important to look at the potential within your organisation and utilise all support available to help grow a sustainable workforce.
Investing in your staff with high quality training programmes that utilise the apprenticeship levy is a no-brainer when it comes to futureproofing your skills.
