Course Overview

If you're interested in supporting people to improve their well-being, this course will provide you with the correct understanding, knowledge and skills to do that.

You will also be taught about counselling theory and the ethical framework that informs how counsellors use their skills.

Counselling Skills

What will I learn?

This course is made up of four units:

  • How core counselling skills can be used in a counselling relationship and in other helping activities.
  • How counselling theory underpins the use of counselling skills.
  • How the ethical framework informs your own use of counselling skills.
  • How to develop skills and qualities in the future.
This course is delivered at an introductory level and is designed to provide a foundation level of knowledge in counselling skills. Further study would be required to practice as a qualified counsellor.

Eligibility Criteria

This course is government funded, you must meet the following criteria to be able to study for free:

  • You must currently live in England    
  • You must have been resident in the UK/EU for 3+ years, for purposes other than study    
  • You must be over the age of 19   
  • You must not be on an apprenticeship

There is a £125 cancellation fee if you enrol and do not complete or withdraw from the course. This fee is to cover administration costs. 

16-24 year olds are least likely to receive mental health support.
2x reported depressive episodes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
65% referrals for talking therapy in 2021/22 were women.
46% people reporting stress also reported overeating.

Submit your work

Once you've finished your course, we'll apply for your certificate. This will be posted to your home address within 6 months of completing your course.
