The 4-Step Off-The-Job Checklist

Before you log an activity, ask yourself these four questions. An activity must hit "YES" on every single step to qualify as off-the-job training.

  1. Is it relevant? Is the activity directly relevant to your specific apprenticeship standard or framework?
    If No ➔ This isn't off-the-job training.

  2. Is it teaching you something new? Is it teaching you brand-new knowledge, skills, or behaviors?
    If No ➔ This isn't off-the-job training.

  3. Is it during your regular schedule? Is the training taking place within your normal, paid working hours (excluding overtime)?
    If No ➔ This isn't off-the-job training.

  4. Does it exclude ineligible tasks? Does it completely exclude general activities like initial assessments, or standard English and Maths lessons?
    If No ➔ This isn't off-the-job training.
