Course overview
The Wellbeing Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) Driver C + E programme is designed to prepare individuals for a professional driving career that prioritises safety, efficiency, and personal wellbeing. This comprehensive training includes a free Category C licence with Driver CPC certification and equips learners with the skills required to operate large goods vehicles confidently across a range of sectors, including retail, construction, logistics, and public services. Whether working independently or as part of a wider team, learners will often carry out deliveries under varied shift patterns, including nights and weekends.
Throughout the programme, learners will develop expertise in safe driving practices, vehicle maintenance, and compliance with traffic legislation, alongside techniques that support physical and mental wellbeing while on the road. The training emphasises fuel-efficient and responsible driving, customer service excellence, and the ability to use industry-recognised systems. Professional communication, effective time management, and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues, clients, and planners are also key elements of the role.
By the end of the programme, participants will have achieved the legal Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC), meeting all professional driving standards. This qualification prepares learners to deliver high-quality service while supporting their own wellbeing and contributing to the safe, effective, and people-focused movement of goods within the logistics industry.
The learner journey
1. 10 months on-programme – This is when the individual will learn the skills, knowledge and behaviours which will support them for their End-Point Assessment. The learner could partake in a combination of activities, such as classroom based sessions, mentoring, shadowing, bespoke resources and off-site visits in order to support their learning and development.
From 1 August 2025, apprentices must complete at least 187 hours of off-the-job (OTJ) training over a minimum of 8 months, with some standards requiring more for those without prior learning. Learn more about OTJ training hours.
2. Gateway – After the 10 months teaching and learning, you, your training provider and the learner will review the learners journey and decide whether it is the right time for the on-programme assessment.
3. End-Point Assessment – This is when your learner will need to demonstrate they have learnt the required knowledge, skills and behaviours, through an on demand knowledge test, a professional discussion, practical observation and business project.
