Learning Curve Group | End Point Assessment Skip to main content

The End-point Assessment (EPA) ensures learners have developed the necessary knowledge, skills, and behaviours for their role during their apprenticeship training. Once teaching and learning for the standard has concluded, the apprentice will enter ‘Gateway’ where their off-the-job log and portfolio will be checked to ensure they are at an appropriate place in their learning to ‘go through gateway’ and complete their end-point assessment.

The design and length of the EPA will change depending on which apprenticeship standard is being assessed but it is a key element of the programme that lasts between 3 and 6 months and the apprentice can achieve grades of pass, merit, distinction, or fail depending on the specific standard.

Operational/Departmental Manager

  • Multiple-choice test on the knowledge, skills and behaviours developed during the apprenticeship.
  • A portfolio of work completed during the programme.
  • A business project completed in the final 6 months of the programme. This is assessed through a written report and presentation to the assessor with Q&A. The assessor may also ask them questions on areas that are less evident within their portfolio to ensure competency.
  • A professional discussion with the assessor to ensure competency and to talk about further CPD completed during the programme and how it has impacted the apprentice in work.

Leader in Adult Care

  • A portfolio of work completed during the programme.
  • Proof of a valid DBS number prior to Gateway
  • 30-minute observation of leadership to demonstrate leadership to an audience with all required preparation work to be planned in advance.
  • This is followed by a 30-minute Q&A session
  • A professional discussion with the assessor to ensure competency and to talk about further CPD completed during the programme and how it has impacted the apprentice in work.
  • An in-depth 90-discussion between IEPA and the apprentice around the knowledge, skills and behaviours to clarify the apprentice's understanding of key elements of their apprenticeship.

Urban Driver

  • Multiple-choice test on the knowledge, skills and behaviours developed during the apprenticeship.
  • A portfolio of work completed during the programme.
  • A practical assessment which involves a vehicle journey plan, pre-use vehicle checks and driving assessment.
  • A professional discussion with the external assessor to clarify the apprentice's understanding of key elements of their apprenticeship including vehicle and load management, health and safety, and legislation.

Digital Marketer

  • A portfolio of work completed during the programme.
  • A weeklong synoptic project designed to help the apprentice demonstrate everything they have learned on the programme. They’re given a selection of briefs to choose from, all asking for slightly different things. This allows you and them to select a project that both challenges them and plays to their strengths to really show off their skills.
  • A professional discussion with the assessor. The assessor may ask them questions on areas that are less evident within their portfolio to ensure competency.

End-point Assessment Organisation (EPAO)

Just as you select which training provider delivers your apprenticeship training, you also decide which End-point Assessment Organisation (EPAO) you'd like to assess your apprentice/s. But don't worry, we're still here to help. We regularly work with award-winning EPAO, NCFE, but can advise of specialist EPAO's too, especially for any specialist qualifications.
